Deliveroo Qatar Rider Privacy Policy

Deliveroo LLC and its parent company Roofoods Ltd ("we", "our", “us” or "Deliveroo") is committed to protecting the privacy of everyone whose personal information we process.

Who does this policy apply to? This privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) applies to anyone who applies to and/or rides with Deliveroo, now or in the past, (“Rider/s” “you” or “your”) including:

  1. all users of our “Rider App/s” (which means all the platforms and software we use to facilitate the services Riders provide to us, including our rider mobile device application and our Rider website https://riders.deliveroo.com.qa/en and other related services); and
  2. if you provide us with information of other people connected to you, (i.e. your Next of Kin, emergency contacts), it will apply to them too.

When you provide us with your personal information and agree to be a Rider, you consent, acknowledge and agree that Deliveroo will collect and use your personal information for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, so please make sure you read it and understand it and, if you provide us with other people’s information, you must ensure they have read and agreed to it too.

What is the Privacy Policy about?

We and the agency / company that employs you each act separately as data controllers for the information we hold about you because we use it for different reasons. This Privacy Policy explains how and why Deliveroo collect, use and protect your personal information.

1. Contact Details

For requests concerning the Privacy Policy or how we handle your personal information more generally, see the “Your rights” section below.

2. How we collect your information

We collect your personal information from:

  1. your employer - when you apply to your employer to ride for Deliveroo, they will tell us who you are and confirm you meet all our requirements. We may also ask your employer to provide us with copies of the information they have about you.
  2. you - when you interact with us, such as when you go through the onboarding process, browse or use the Rider App/s, if you complete our surveys, questionnaires or contact us by email, phone, post, text or in-app messages or use the chat function on our Rider App/s). We may also ask you to provide us your personal information so we can independently confirm and check that you meet our requirements, and/or compare it with the information your employer has told us about you so we can check and audit them.
  3. the Rider App/s and your device/s - when you use Rider App/s we collect information about your use of them, including about your rider online status (i.e. whether you’re able to accept deliveries or not) when using the Rider App and (when online) your order progress swipes as well as technical information.
  4. our customers and Partners - customers and Partners sometimes provide their feedback on Riders and their respective delivery or collection experiences;
  5. third parties - we may also collect information from third party sites, such as advertising and social media platforms.

3. What kind of information we collect about you

As part of our commitment to your privacy, we want to be clear about the types of information we collect. We collect:

  1. Information about who you are and how you meet Rider requirements, for example:

    1. your name;
    2. contact details (such as email address, address and phone numbers);
    3. next of kin / emergency contact details (provided you have permission to share them with us);
    4. the vehicle you use when riding with Deliveroo, including the type of driving licence you hold (i.e. whether you are licenced to drive a car, a bike or both), the vehicle’s insurance and registration details;
    5. date of birth;
    6. postcode;
    7. your right to work (including visa information);
    8. accommodation details including photographs, where necessary;
    9. whether you are currently a Rider or if you’ve been a Rider in the past;
    10. any changes you make to your Rider account profile in the Rider App/s;
    11. your employer; and
    12. any other information your employer shares with us so we know who you are and can set you up to ride with Deliveroo.
  2. Sensitive personal information to verify your identity, for example:

    1. photos or videos of you (“selfies”) and your identity documents;
    2. facial biometric information, derived from your selfies;
    3. identification documents that reflect your identity in accordance with the laws and regulations in Qatar, (e.g. a copy of your passport, civil identification card, driver licence, proof of address and any background and right to work checks that may have been carried out or provided to your employer);
    4. working visas or other permits required to work for your employer, that may have been carried out by your employer or you); and
    5. any other information we might need to verify your identity or that you meet our requirements.
  3. See the section “How and why we use your information” below for more details on how and why we use sensitive personal information to verify your identity.

  4. Information about your deliveries and the services you provide to us. We record details of:

    1. your deliveries, including a record of orders or services performed by you, your use of the Rider App/s and order progress swipes;
    2. your contact with us, including emails, phone calls, post, chat or other form of contact with us. Your calls to Rider Support and Customer Services may be recorded for training and improvement;
    3. your earnings, including a record of fees for the deliveries you’ve made, your tips (if obtained via the Rider App). From time to time, we may also ask you to provide information about how and how much you’ve been paid by your employer, so we can carry out audits and checks;
    4. your likes and dislikes, including any perks or preferences you have selected or enjoyed, either from us or a third-party partner;
    5. your feedback that you send us or provide to us through focus groups, questionnaires or surveys, if applicable;
    6. incident information, including any information or reports we receive from you, our restaurants or grocery partners (“Partners”), customers and other members of the public that you may have encountered with whilst riding with Deliveroo, as well as information about any incidents you may have been involved in or are aware of;
    7. your orders, including any information you provide if and when registering for or ordering any kit, or taking offers from Deliveroo or partners, including what you ordered and your delivery address; and
    8. information you give us when you participate in things like competitions, prize draws, promotions, Rider events, our scholarship program or online courses or our partners’ services, if available.

    Please note, when you use websites or applications of third parties in connection with your services for Deliveroo, including during the application and onboarding process, those sites or applications (which may include advertising or social media platforms) may also collect and process your information independently of Deliveroo. Deliveroo has no control over the privacy practices or the content of any of our business partners, advertisers, sponsors, so please check the related third-party’s privacy policy and terms of use when visiting any other websites, and Deliveroo is not responsible for the above mentioned.

  5. Information about your location

    1. When you request to use a location-based function in the Rider App, (i.e when you want to find a zone centre or use the zone selector control, we access your location from your device in order to provide this functionality). You consent to this by opting to use these functions whilst your status is set to ”offline” i.e. not available for orders. In the event that you do not want us to have access to your location when you are “offline” and not exercising Deliveroo’s services via the Rider App, please do not request the “use a location functions” indicated therein.
    2. When your status is set to “online” (i.e. available for orders) in the Rider App, we collect your location data on a continuous basis so we can manage Deliveroo services (including tracking orders, pickups and deliveries). If you do not want us to view your location, please change your rider status to "offline", However you must be online in the Rider App to accept and/or complete orders.

    Unless you request to use a location-based function or set your status to “online” in the Rider App, we do not access or otherwise collect your location data.

  6. Technical information about your device including characteristics of and performance data about

    1. your device;
    2. the Rider App/s;
    3. your operating system;
    4. your device type;
    5. device ID;
    6. network connection type;
    7. app version;
    8. phone language;
    9. screen size;
    10. platform;
    11. your usage and interaction with the Rider App; and
    12. internet connection.

This technical information is gathered using cookies or other tracking technologies You can use your device settings to reject or remove these functional technologies, however please be aware that if you do this, the Rider App may not function correctly and you may not be able to carry out your services as a Rider with Deliveroo.

By accessing the Rider App using other digital routes such as (but not limited to) a tablet or other devices/technology, then Deliveroo's personal information collection and usage as set out in this Privacy Policy will apply in that context too.

4. How and why we use your information

We will only process your information if there is a reason for doing so, and if that reason is permitted under data protection law. Those reasons are: See more

  1. We have your consent. We ask for your consent when we need it, for example, to process:
    1. sensitive personal information. We use biometric data for facial recognition to perform identity verification & eligibility checks, so we can verify i) who you are, ii) that you match the identity presented in the identification and right to work documents you provide so we can prevent the use of fake identities or anyone impersonating genuine Riders, iii) your eligibility to work. We do this by, every now and then, asking you to submit a “selfie” of yourself and a photo of your identity document. Your selfie will be compared with the photo in the identity document. This comparison is made automatically using an identity verification platform with facial recognition, operated by our service provider called Onfido or alternatively you can choose to use the manual check option where a member of our team will review your documents.
    2. to keep these records for auditing and storing evidence of these checks; and
    3. other activities where we’ve asked you to confirm your consent first.
  2. To perform a contract we entered into with your employer and provide Deliveroo services, like:
    1. managing the onboarding process so that you’re set up to ride quickly, compliantly and efficiently;
    2. checking you are legally compliant and complying with our internal policies, when riding with Deliveroo, by seeing road licence and insurance checks (where permitted by law);
    3. to check eligibility requirements to use selected third-party products or services if available;
    4. providing Riders with access to the Rider App, create a Rider account and managing use of both, as a means of Deliveroo engaging your services, including to enable Riders to accept orders;
    5. managing orders and delivery operations. Deliveroo uses automated decision-making to assign orders based on your location and your vehicle type, ensuring that orders are allocated in the most efficient way. A completed delivery is the collection of order item(s) from one or more Partners and delivery to one or more customer(s). We analyse your information and automatically confirm which deliveries are completed. You can choose to unassign from a delivery at any time through the Rider App, where possible, or by contacting Rider Support. In addition, you can simply reject offers of orders freely;
    6. communicating with you about operational information, including standards to be performed, relating to deliveries, such as closed zones, any important changes or developments to the Rider App/s;
    7. enabling Rider Support, tech, Customer Services and engagement teams to communicate with you to ensure deliveries run smoothly and complaints can be resolved promptly, help you with any issues, get feedback, manage enquiries or complaints and fix any bugs or other technical issues in the Rider App using technical information relating to your device;
    8. calculating and administering payments and informing your employer of the same for deliveries and, where available, any referrals;
    9. enabling Rider access to Deliveroo Rider kit, where available, including use of the Deliveroo Rider kit store website and services to order, pay for and receive delivery of Deliveroo Rider kit; and
    10. administering and developing rider events and other rider initiatives.
  3. to comply with our legal or regulatory requirements, including
    1. keeping records of payments we made to your employer for your services;
    2. calculating and administering taxes including, if applicable, withholding taxes and to report necessary tax information to relevant authorities;
    3. responding to legal and regulatory requests from relevant authorities;
    4. checking compliance with our internal policies to protect our reputation and mitigate legal risks and any other legal or regulatory requirements; and
    5. to enable you to use or benefit from an insurance policy, if applicable;
    6. to carry out audits and inspections
  4. to exercise our legitimate interests, including

    1. understanding and maintaining the Rider fleet and improving Rider experiences by, for example:

      1. getting your feedback on your Rider experience;
      2. where available, informing you about opportunities in connection with the services you provide for Deliveroo, such as by riding at certain times;
      3. sending you news and information in connection with riding with Deliveroo, the Rider community or to help you to understand more about Deliveroo generally, including updates, tech updates, or information to help you to find appropriate road safety equipment, for example;
      4. if applicable, enabling your referrer to understand whether they are eligible to receive a referral fee, if you use a referral code in your Rider application;
      5. administering and developing Rider events and other Rider initiatives; and
      6. running campaigns to attract more Riders. We sometimes also use anonymous or aggregated forms of your information in the media or in rider onboarding campaigns (from which you are not identifiable).
    2. keeping our business, systems and services running, improving and growing, by for example:

      1. making sure the Rider App/s are working properly: We analyse technical information about your device to help us understand how our Rider App/s is used and whether there’s anything affecting the technical functionality of the Rider App/s. With this information we can make sure the Rider App/s are working properly with your device, that it’s secure and so we can spot and fix any bugs or issues. When you use our Rider App/s technical information is gathered using cookies or other similar technologies to remember you when you log in (enable auto-login) and to ensure the Rider App is working properly with your device (application programming interface (“API”) authentication);
      2. managing delivery operations: we analyse personal information in order so we can make the most efficient decisions using automated means when offering you orders, based on your location and your vehicle type;
      3. improving the quality and efficiency of our services: We analyse historical data (such as your past order progress swipes and other Rider App usage, feedback you gave about orders and your historical location data), Partner or Rider experience, inefficient deliveries or damage to Deliveroo, so we can learn from it and design, develop and test new or improved tools, processes, services or systems;
      4. creating promotional offers: we analyse information about your past rides to make certain assumptions about the types of promotional offers that we might offer;
      5. training our algorithms and automated tools: we need information to train our algorithms (like our order despatch algorithm) to make the most effective and accurate decisions;
      6. improving how we interact with you: We evaluate how we’ve interacted with you, your engagement and how you use the Rider App/s to improve how we interact with you (such as communications or Rider App functionality);
      7. encouraging Deliveroo’s network efficiency;
      8. making sure information is relevant: we send you information most relevant to the locations where you most often work;
      9. resolving issues: we use information about you and your deliveries to enable our Rider Support, tech and engagement teams to help you with any issues, enquiries or complaints efficiently and effectively, including to fix any bugs or other technical issues in the Rider App using technical information relating to your device;
      10. creating a positive experience for Riders, our customers and our Partners: we use information to evaluate and improve the quality of Deliveroo services, content and advertisements; and
      11. contacting you with marketing communications We use your information to contact you by email, post, phone, message, push notifications or in-app messages about Deliveroo’s products and services for marketing purposes, updates, promotions, or for any purposes as set out in this Privacy Policy or amended versions of it.
    3. We’ll let you know about products and services that are useful to you as a Rider and/or any promotions from third party partners which are designed to support your provision of services to Deliveroo. If we need consent,, we will check that we have your consent or that you have not objected to hearing from us, as applicable, before we contact you. You have the option to unsubscribe from promotional communications.

      We may also use information or comments you’ve made about Deliveroo for marketing purposes. By making these comments about Deliveroo, you expressly agree to allow us to use them for marketing purposes in general.

    4. to help protect our business by, for example

      1. exercising or defending legal claims and protecting the rights of Deliveroo, Riders, Partners, customers or others, including determining our liability;
      2. enforcing the terms of any agreements we have entered into with your employer and keep records of such enforcement;
      3. monitoring and analysing to detect and prevent potential harm from possibility of prohibited or illegal activities or breaches of any of our policies or conditions of being a Deliveroo Rider (e.g. by misusing the Rider App, or acting fraudulently), much of which is done by automated means. Breaches like these may result in us disabling your use of the Rider App or no longer using you as a Deliveroo Rider, if we have the right to do so;
      4. being fair and efficient by using automated systems to provide a more accurate, fair and efficient way of analysing information, particularly when verifying your identity and right to work documentation, identifying suspected fraud and instances of potential breaches the conditions of being a Deliveroo Rider. However, we never use solely automated processes to make a decision about whether to stop using a Rider;
      5. investigating any complaints or incident reports relating to you or other Riders and to prevent fraud or other misuse of our systems and services; and
      6. detecting and preventing security or fraud risks and implementing measures to mitigate those risks to ensure the integrity and security of the Rider App/s and Deliveroo’s systems and network (e.g. enabling auto-login to the Rider App/s for API authentication).

5. Automated decisions

In this Privacy Policy, we’ve provided a number of examples to explain when we use automated decision-making, like assigning orders efficiently, calculating fees and to help us identify suspected fraud or breaches of our policies. If an automated decision could significantly affect you, we make sure that there is a manual human review before a firm decision is made. 6. Sharing your information

We may share your information with others who fall in to the following categories, to carry out any of the purposes we’ve described this Privacy Policy: See more

  1. Deliveroo group companies: We share your information internally, with other Deliveroo group companies carrying out certain processing activities;
  2. Third parties:: We share your information with third party service providers that provide services on our behalf, including:
    1. Your employer.
    2. IT service providers: including cloud, software, analytics, communications and data storage providers.
    3. Operational service providers:including feedback and survey providers, background and right to work verification and onboarding providers, our support service providers, payment providers, user research partners, professional advisors, financial and administrative services providers and other suppliers, business partners, contractors and subcontractors.
    4. Partners and customers: we provide limited information, when needed, to Partners and customers whose orders you accept.
    5. Insurance companies: if you decide to purchase third party products or services (such as insurance), or where you are enrolled into a Deliveroo insurance policy, you or the provider may request that we provide your information to the provider to enable them to provide the products, services or policy to you, so we will share this information for this purpose. We may also need to share your information with our insurers to establish whether we are liable for any incident you have been involved in whilst providing services to us.
    6. Rider promotional partners: if you have indicated an interest in their services.
    7. Anyone who refers you to us as a Rider (if applicable): Your referrer will be given updates about progress towards their referral fee in relation to you, such as if you’ve reached the required orders for them to receive their fee or if their referral has been unsuccessful.
    8. Media: where we have the legal right to do so, such as if you share (including by publishing or causing to be published) any details about your Rider services for Deliveroo which are misleading or inconsistent with our records of your Rider services for Deliveroo, including regarding details about your earnings, we may share your information (such as in the form of a correction) with the media.
    9. Prospective businesses or shareholders. If our business is preparing for or enters into a joint venture, purchase, sale or merger, your information may be disclosed or transferred to the actual or prospective target company, new business partners or owners or their advisors, to help carry out any necessary due diligence exercises, manage or complete the process.
    10. Public authorities and enforcement agencies. While we shall exert efforts to maintain your privacy, we may be obliged or under a duty to disclose your personal information to governmental or private entities, or any other third-party, if ordered to do so by a judicial ruling or similar legal order and we we believe it is necessary to do so to comply with the law and / or to cooperate with any law enforcement agency. We may also share information if need to report illegal activity or we believe that disclosing your personal information is necessary to prevent any physical harm or financial loss to any third-party, including exchanging information with other companies and organisations for the purposes of fraud protection and prevention.
    11. Professional advisors, auditors and consultants or other third parties who help us to ensure we are compliant with laws and regulations, internal policies or helping us to protect Deliveroo by enforcing the terms of our contracts or, for example, if we’re in a dispute or need to protect the rights of Deliveroo, Partners, customers or other, including to prevent fraud and abuse.
    12. In an emergency or to prevent crime. We may need to share your information with other third parties who we think may be able to help where we reasonably believe that you or another person has been harmed or is at risk of harm in connection with your Rider services for Deliveroo. We may also share information with those third parties as we reasonably consider necessary in order to detect or prevent crime, e.g. the police, emergency services.

7. Data transfers

The information we collect about you will be transferred to and stored on our servers located within the EU. In some cases the personal information is processed outside Qatar, the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, such as the United States and the countries in which Deliveroo operates. These countries may not have the same laws or protections as we do in Qatar but we will comply with all laws applicable to Qatar and take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that there are appropriate safeguards in place to protect your information and that it is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy and applicable laws when it is transferred to those countries.

8. Retention of your information

We will only retain your personal information for as long as we reasonably need it to fulfil the purposes we have described in this Privacy Policy. Some of those purposes will mean we need to keep it for longer than usual, for example where we need to satisfy any legal, regulatory, tax, accounting or reporting requirements or resolve complaints. When we no longer have a good reason for holding it, we will delete or anonymise your personal information (so that it can no longer be associated with or identify you).

9. Security

We adopt robust technologies and policies to protect your information from being accidentally lost, used, altered, disclosed or accessed in an unauthorised way. See more

We have implemented procedures to deal with any personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.

Unfortunately, the transmission of personal information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we take steps to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information transmitted to the Rider Site or the Rider App; any transmission is at your own risk. Once we have received your personal information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorised access.

Where you have chosen a password which allows you to access certain parts of the Rider App or Rider Site, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. You must keep any password you create, or other secure login method, secret, and prevent unauthorised access to your account. We advise you not to share your password with anyone.

10. Your rights

Under certain circumstances, you have rights under data protection law in relation to the personal information we hold about you. These include: See more

  1. The right to access. You have the right to receive a copy of the personal information we hold about you and to check that we are lawfully processing it. This includes the right to obtain a statement about the types of personal information we process, why we process it and with whom and where it is shared, as well as how long we keep hold of it, all of which is included in this Privacy Policy.
  2. The right to rectification. You are entitled to have any incomplete or inaccurate information we hold about you completed or corrected, though you will need to supply supporting evidence to verify the accuracy of the corrected information you provide to us.
  3. The right to restrict processing. You have the right to block or suppress further use of your information in certain circumstances. When processing is restricted, we may still have a lawful reason to store your information, but we will not use it further.
  4. The right to erasure. This means that you can request the deletion or removal of certain of the information that we hold about you where there is no good reason for us continuing to process it. This right is not absolute and only applies in certain circumstances.
  5. The right to withdraw consent. Where we rely on consent to use your information, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawing consent will not, however, make unlawful our use of your information before you withdraw your consent. Where we’ve asked for your consent in order to provide certain services to you, if you withdraw your consent, we may not be able to provide them.
  6. The right to object to processing. You have the right to object to certain types of processing if it is no longer necessary to process it to achieve the purposes for which your information was collected or if decisions are made about you based solely on the automated processing of your information and that automated processing can lead to discriminatory outcomes or where your information has been collected beyond the extent required, is discriminatory, unfair or illegal. You can object by contacting us using the details set out below.
  7. The right to data portability. You have the right to receive the information you provide to us, in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format which you can transfer to another service provider or other third party who is a data controller. This right is not absolute and only applies in certain circumstances.

In Qatar, this is the Data Protection Office, a body independent of Qatar Financial Centre which administers all aspects of data protection within the QFC. 11. Changes to our Privacy Policy

We update this Privacy Policy from time to time, so remember to check back in every so often, in case anything has changed and, where appropriate, we may notify you of the changes, for example by email or other method.
